The European Green Deal is a set of policies and plans aimed at making the European Union carbon neutral by 2050; it envisions a broad series of actions in all sectors of the economy, seeking a reduction in greenhouse emissions and contrasting climate change.

This paper aims at shading light on some possible economic policies useful to tackle the issue, with a specific focus on carbon pricing policies, (in particular, Carbon Tax and the EU Emissions Trading System) and investments in the European Union context.

In conclusion, these economic instruments could be particularly effective in contrasting climate change, but they produce redistribution issues and price volatility that require additional policies intervention.
