Yulia Navalnaya is Alexei Navalny’s wife, Russian dissident died on February 16th, 2024, in “natural circumstances”, as the Kremlin affirms.

Navalny’s death

The death of the most animated Putin’s opponent has created no small debate on the reasons for his death. Navalny was confined in the penal colony IK-3, where he is supposed to have died for “natural causes” on February 16th, 2024, maybe because of a thrombosis or an embolism.

Yet, the event upsets the whole world, in particular his mother, who had visited his son only four days earlier and had found him “perfectly healthy”.

This led to several accusations against the Russian government, especially by Joe Biden, who accused Putin of being responsible for the event. In Italy, Antonio Tajani himself declared that “You may not kill a person directly, but you can also make him die, which is the same thing. I don't know if he was made to die because of the way he was kept in prison, but in fact he was killed, either directly or indirectly the regime killed him”.

Above all, a person who made her voice be heard was his widow Yulia Navalnaya, who published a video-message through the social network X, the old Twitter.

Yulia Navalnaya on X

Navalnaya’s first appearance on X dates to February 19th, 2024, when in a video-message she expresses her will to pursue the political activism of her husband after his death, desired, she thinks, by Putin himself. The next day, on February 20th, 2024, her account was blocked for an hour on the social network.

From that moment on, her presence on social media is still ongoing.

Yulia Navalnaya at the European Parliament

On February 28th, 2024, Yulia Navalnaya gives a speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. On this occasion, she affirms that “Putin is capable of everything” and that “it is impossible to negotiate with him”. She is also worried because it seems impossible for her to stop him. Furthermore, she declares the need of choosing a different politics to fight against a “mafioso” like him. Eventually, she ends her speech referring to the “reliable allies” who are supposed to have supported and sustained the European actions: “the Russian people against Putin”.

To the present-day, Yulia Navalnaya’s last meaningful presence is one more video-message on X published on March 06th, 2024. In this case she addresses to the Russian population: on the occasion of the Presidential elections in Russia, which will be held on March 15th-17th, Yulia Navalnaya proposes again the project of her dead husband: to go to the polling stations at noon on March 17th.

She says: “If we go all together, our voice will resonate louder. In any case, it will not be an election, but we will be able to meet and see that we are many, and strong.”

To sum up, this message launches a real protest aiming to get noticed and make one’s voice heard.

March 17th. Midday. For Navalny”, this is the name of the fight pursued by Yulia Navalnaya.
