Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris on 15 April 1990 to the lawyers Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby. She spent the early five years of her life in Paris, until her parents divorced and moved to the UK, living in Oxfordshire with her mother and spending weekends with her father in London.

At the age of six she joined the Stagecoach Theatre Arts where she started her training in singing, dancing and acting.

By age ten she had performed as protagonist in several productions such as: Arthur: The Young Years, The Happy Prince e Alice in Wonderland. Moreover, at just the age of seven in 1997, she took part in the The Daily poetry competition and won the first prize.

She attended the Dragon School in Oxford until 2003 when she moved to Headington School, an evangelical girl's school where she then completed A Level.

1999 is the year of her breakthrough. In fact the nine years old- Emma was cast for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", her first role on the screen which made her internationally acclaimed. The film was an adaptation of the young and back then unemployed f J.K. Rowling's homonymous book, which soon became a bestseller. Nobody could known that an important page in the history of cinema and literature was beginning, a work that marked a generation like J.R.R.Tolkien trilogy and the Star Wars saga.

The film producer, David Heyman, stated that youg Emma had been chosen after 8 auditions for the role of Hermione Granger. The film was internationally acclaimed , she was awarded as the best leading young actress and continued her collaboration in the series for the next twelve years: "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" in 2002, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" in 2004, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in 2005, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in 2007, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in 2009, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: part 1" in 2010, e "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" in 2011.

In 2009 she began her career as model for Burberry, moving then to Lancòme in 2011. In 2013 has posed for Globan Green USA, a NGO promoting environmental sustainability . In 2014 she was awarded Best British Style at British Fashion Awards. She has trained as fashion designer at People Tree and Alberta Ferretti, planning to launch her organic clothing collection.

In 2014 she graduated in English Literature at Brown University inProvidence (USA) and in the same year she was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Women; since then she was involved in different campaigns such as HeForShe, fighting for women's rights and for gender equality in the world. Soon she became active in Bangladesh and Zambia, in particular in the latter where she took part in the initiative Camfed International, a program promoting education for girls in rural Africa.

In2016 she founded Our Shared Shelf, a feminist online bookclub.

Growing up in the role of Hermione, at the end of the saga and in parallel with her university studies, she decided to try new acting experiences which would let her implement her acting skills outside the character for which she was now an iconic face throughout the world.

Her first tv appearance outside the world of Hogwarts has been in Ballet Shoes, broadcasted by BBC One in 2007. In 2008, she dobbed the animation movie The Tale of Despereaux. She also acted in Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower in 2012 that made her win the People's Choice Award as Best Drama-Actress and Best Supporting Actress at San Diego Film Critics Society Awards, The Bling Ring in 2013, Noah in 2014, The Colony e Regression in 2015, The Circle in 2017 and in the same year she's played in the reissue live action of the Disney's classic Beauty and the beast; finally in 2020 she acted in Little women.
