Joel Budai

Joel Budai holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Sapienza University of Rome. Her thesis, developed within the field of Sociology of European Integration, focused on the European Neighbourhood Policy and the challenges of European integration, with particular attention to the Union for the Mediterranean. Throughout her academic journey, she developed a strong interest in geopolitics, geoeconomics and strategic studies, focusing on contemporary international relations, international security and the role of supranational organisations. This interest has led her to further explore the relationship between technological innovation, power and international affairs, fostering a growing interest in the Geopolitics of Artificial Intelligence, a field in which she intends to pursue further specialization through an ISPI programme. She also gained experience at the Department for European Affairs of the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and at the Italian Ministry of the Interior, working on European policies and migration-related issues. Her research interests focus on geopolitical and strategic transformations in the Euro- Mediterranean area and the Middle East, with particular attention to security and defence issues. Within Mondo Internazionale G.E.O., Joel Budai serves as Junior Researcher in the Defence and Security area.
