On September 10th 2024, the two competitors for the role of US President which will be voted on November 5th 2024 faced one another during a heated debate. In Philadelphia, the Republican former President Donald Trump confronted the current Vice-President and newly candidate for the White House Kamala Harris for ninety minutes.

The debate regarded different issues at the core of US politics: abortion, migration and the withdrawal from Afghanistan. These were only the most “hot topics” of the debate. What was highly perceived is Kamala Harris’ confidence that has been considered the winner by 63% of a sample of 600 people. The running Democrat reiterated the key points of her campaign, spotlighting her position against Putin and the abortion right.

On the other hand, Trump’s controversial statement mined his credibility in front of a big deal of the American electorate. When talking about immigration, the former President declared that in Springfield, Ohio, some migrants from Tahiti would be responsible for eating neighbors’ pets. This clearly conspiracy theory was immediately denied during the debate, the moderator himself promptly intervened claiming that local authorities categorically denied the news.

Whereas this claim had a strong impact on the audience, a CNN report underlines that there has been some other fake news all along the debate from both sides.

In fact, Harris affirmed that the States during Trump’s presidency experienced the worst unemployment rate while actually the 2020 one isn’t lower than the 1939 one. Moreover, the Democrat candidate inveigh against the fact that the Court of Justice defined Trump immune to every wrong conduct. The truth is that what the Court of Justice said is that a President is immune only for his administrative role and not for all his behaviors.

On the other hand, Trump inveigh against migration claiming that migrants trying to get into the Country are mainly prisoners, mental disorder affected people and illegals but there is no actual data supporting this thesis.

Moreover, he stated that Harris met with Putin before the outbreak of the war with the aim of finding an agreement regarding the crisis in Ukraine and that then failed but actually, Kamala Harris never met Putin, only the Ukrainian leader Zelensky.

Lastly, Trump claimed that Biden was paid by China and Ukraine, again with no proof or clues confirming it.

In conclusion, the debate led both parties towards some blunders and inaccuracies but it seems like Kamala Harris is the winner. At the end of the debate she immediately asked for another round while Donald Trump bounced on the moderators, defining them biased. What matters is that the results will be tangible not before November 5th, when the elections will be held.
